Green Waverley – do NOT build on Central Car Park

GREEN WAVERLEY: THE HEALTHY ALTERNATIVE

We have a vision of a peoples’ space in Glen Waverley.  A healthier lifestyle for those living, working in or visiting the centre;  an environmentally friendly proposal.

In 2014 the Glen Waverley Activity Structure Plan anticipated high rise development on the car park site: see diagram below.

EM&U will be joining with the community to inform Monash Council that this will be the best outcome for the community.

  1. Interestingly, Planning Panels Victoria’s report (http://dsewebapps.dse.vic.gov.au/Shared/ats.nsf/%28attachmentopen%29/517B7CF7AFC28975CA257F98007DBABE/$File/Monash+C120+Panel+Report+.pdf?OpenElement), despite Council’s attempt to use dirty legal trickery of planning amendment C123 to prevent them considering the car park issue, has recommended that “this open space should be at least 20 per cent of the car park’s total area to provide the community with certainty that the space will be of a practical scale”. While many submissions advocated 100% open space, this is a significant step forward from the proposed traffic island and widened footpath shown in Council concept drawings.

  2. So Monash just announced they are building a 10 storey development?

It is a terrible idea as Glen Waverley is already too crowded and turning into an ugly urban concrete jungle. There are so many apartment developments in play already such as the massive apartment development being planned over the Glen shopping centre and the newly constructed towering apartment block that took over the Glen train station. Now they want to put another 10 storey development right in the middle of the Kingsway? It will be a blight on the landscape and is creating a huge imbalance in the housing and infrastructure. This is proof that the council is just interested in jumping on the bandwagon and increasing rate revenue from huge numbers of empty foreign owned apartments at the expense of what is really in the interests and comfort of its residents.

    1. Thanks for your comments Kellie. Many Glen Waverley residents have been asking for green and open space to provide a healthier environment for people living in high rise buildings and to allow people from across Monash to gather and share many and diverse interests. Central Car Park is the ideal area for this open space. As you say more apartments is just creating a ‘concrete jungle’.
