Lunar New Year

Those of us who live in the Monash municipality of Melbourne are very familiar with Chinese New Year Celebrations.  Celebrations in the City of Melbourne,  in Monash  and nearby Springvale and Box Hill attract the crowds.  Recently we discovered many thought the Lunar New Year celebrations were a Chinese tradition only.

However people in Monash and surrounding areas celebrate other Lunar New Year Events.  One of these is the Vietnamese New Year, Tet.

A list of countries basing their calendar on the moon is available in Wikipaedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lunar_New_Year

If you celebrate Lunar New Year in Monash or nearby let us know  how you celebrate by clicking on ‘Leave a Comment’ above.  What differences are there between the celebrations in the country of origin of the festival and in our local area?  Is there something you would like to do to celebrate in the future that you are not able to do now?  Would you like to share your celebrations with others in Monash?
